Entrepreneurship: hobby or passion?

Entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint-hearted, it requires sacrifice, patience and hard work. So how do you know if entrepreneurship is for you? How do you
know if you should plunge or not?

Are there any signs one should look out for if they are thinking of being an entrepreneur or starting their own business? Here are a few tale tail signs that entrepreneurship could be for you.

Are you constantly doing the following?

  • Are you constantly thinking of innovative ideas or solutions?
  • Are you passionate about wanting to do something or offer solutions?
  • Are you an employee who is stuck, frustrated or unsatisfied?
  • Do you feel as though you have “hit the roof” and need a challenge?
  • Do you want to build a team to implement and birth your own ideas?
  • Are you tired of the red tape around you?

Entrepreneurship isn’t glamourous and takes its toll from time to time. It has its own risks and benefits. However, entrepreneurs are idea generators and are passionate individuals who are always looking for solutions to problems they have identified or are always looking for ways to fill a gap they have identified.

Reality is that entrepreneurs are individuals who are all about change and they can do it alone or with pre-identified candidates who can help birth and grow their ideas. At times, money isn’t the motivator but it will come as the business grows.

But more importantly, Entrepreneurs are willing to put in the work, time and sweat needed to turn their dreams into reality because entrepreneurship isn’t easy and takes time and dedication to make it work.

So before you take the plunge, figure out if you really want to be an entrepreneur, check if your solutions or idea fills a gap, provides a solution to an existing problem but more importantly if there is a market who will be willing to pay.

Good luck on your entrepreneurship journey and don’t be afraid to roll-up your sleeves and get dirty but also ask for advice and help because entrepreneurship can be a long and lonely journey.
